What is an Auxilian?

The Overlook Hospital Auxiliary, an independent organization made up of men and women of all ages, benefits Overlook Hospital by providing much needed hands-on volunteering or creative fundraising. Auxilians work as an individual or as a member of a "Twig."

Can anyone be a member of a Twig?

Yes! Your Twig can be made up of a group of friends from your town, neighborhood, place of worship, workplace, anywhere in your community that friends come together. Your Twig will be part of the Auxiliary. Spouses are also welcome. You work together for the benefit of Overlook Hospital. Your Twig decides what projects you would most enjoy doing as a group.

In what activities are Twigs already involved?

Currently, Twigs are responsible for such volunteer activities as:

• Organ Donor Awareness program
• Making Love Pillows for post-operative patients
• Supplying the hospital's public spaces with new and updated magazines
• Decorating the hospital during the holiday season
• Holiday parties in the Pediatric area
• Creating, publishing, and distributing Overlook Hospital's "Great Gatherings" cookbook. More information about the cookbook and how to purchase it are available at the "cookbook" section of this website.
• Twigs also raise funds to benefit the hospital through such activities as annual Derby Day, Cinco Di Mayo and Tony Awards Parties, the Holiday Luminary sale and many other "Great Gatherings."

How can my Twig help to support Overlook Hospital?

Your Twig may choose activities from the hospital's many volunteer opportunities, fund items from the hospital's "Wish List," become part of our "adopt-a-floor" program, create a new, dazzling fundraising activity, or you may choose to let your creativity be your inspiration. In any event, Twigs are fun!

May I just join the Auxiliary?

We invite you to be a part of the Auxiliary. All members receive our quarterly newsletter the Pulse and are encouraged to actively pursue volunteer opportunities at Overlook Hospital.

Twigs sound like a lot of fun.  How might I start one?

You and your friends can create "Great Gatherings" of your own by joining together as a Twig. Simply complete the form below and click on "Submit." You will be contacted by a representative of the Auxiliary.
