Busy Bees

Gathering several times per month, the “Busy Bees” create sweet little bunny hats and festive stocking buntings to send home newborns swaddled within for Easter and Christmas. The remainder of the year the "Bees" sew Benji Bear hand puppets which are distributed to pediatric patients in many departments throughout Overlook Medical Center.

If you are interested in helping, please call the Auxiliary Business Office @ 908-522-2004.

CH Twig #15

On Saturday, September 11, 2010 over 150 residents of the Highlands in Chatham enjoyed a sunny afternoon of fun. This annual neighborhood block party,  hosted by Chatham Twig #15,  included DJ music, an arts and crafts table and a special appearance by a Chatham Township fire truck - which proved to be a real crowd pleaser for the children.  Net proceeds from the annual event benefits the Auxiliary.

CH Twig #15 held its inaugural wine tasting fundraiser on March 20, 2010 at the home of member Jennifer Kulp.  Wines from Chile and South America along with food pairings were featured.  NY Sommelier Nadja Frederick lead the tasting period.  To add to the fun there was a blind raffle to win a bottle of wine.  The members were pleased with both the attendance and the fundraising effort.

CH Twig #16

Members of CH Twig #16 meet once or twice per month and create beautiful “Love Pillows” which are presented to post operative patients.  Love Pillows serve as a soft little hug at a time when most of us need and appreciate a hug from a friend.

NP Twig #2

On Monday, December 13, 2010, NP Twig #2 celebrated together with their Annual Christmas Tea.  The event took place at the home of Lenore Ford.  During this joyous season members not only spend time together but remember those less fortunate. Christmas gifts for the children of the Health Start Clinic at Overlook Medical Center are collected at this event.  Each member brings at least one wrapped gift to be delivered to Health Start before Christmas for distribution.

SH Twig #27

On December 7, 2010 SH Twig #27 again sponsored their Annual Holiday Boutique in Overlook’s Wallace Auditorium.  Thanks to the countless hours of hard work and dedication by Twig members, the event was a resounding success. The event had the support of customers ranging from the Overlook staff, Administration, volunteers and visitors to the hospital, all who stopped by to make a purchase or two.

Several new vendors were added this year much to the delight of our customers. A few vendors came from distances as far away as Pennsylvania and South Jersey.  They sold jewelry from many areas of Asia and ponchos and scarves from Ecuador.  One vendor sold over 50 varieties of nuts, chocolates and brittles.

Many thanks go out to all of you for your continued support of this very popular fundraising event.

SU Twig #1

DISBANDED

(June 2011) After sixteen years of service, an incredible journey has come to an end for SU Twig 1 - Donate Life.  To the Auxiliary, who has continually supported all our work we send a huge THANK YOU.  We truly could not have done it without you.  Heartfelt thanks also to all our members for their tireless work.

Many of our volunteers will continue our mission by joining with the Sharing Network - the State’s Organ Procurement Organization headquartered in New Providence.  If you would like to join our efforts please call Lenore Ford at 973-984-2174.

The Auxiliary Board of Trustees presented Lenore Ford a bouquet of flowers from Bloom.

On Monday, June 6 Lenore Ford hosted a farewell luncheon for SU Twig #1 members and invited guests at her beautiful Morristown home. The afternoon included Lenore highlighting many of her Twig’s accomplishments and recounting some poignant stories involving donor recipients.

Lunch included many homemade salads, quiches a carving board and an array of wonderful desserts.  The piece de resistance was a specialty cake from Natale’s Bakery in Summit which was adorned with the Donate Life logo.

As the afternoon drew to a close, laughter and tears were shared among friends knowing that their cause and work continues.

SU Twig #3

The 2010 Auxiliary Spring Luncheon, chaired by SU Twig #3, was held on Friday, May 14 at Canoe Brook Country Club with over 200 guests in attendance.  Colleen Christian Burke, author of the book "Have a Whithouse Christmas" was the guest speaker. Her book is a how-to decorating guide that teaches readers ways they can bring decorating styles of the FIrst Ladies into thier own homes.  The book showcases exclusive, never before seen White House photos of our First Families as they celebrate the holidays.

SU Twig #4

On Saturday, May 7, 2011 , members of SU Twig #4 celebrated the season with a Cinco de Mayo-themed party hosted by Twig 4 member Katrina Walsh and her husband Matt at their Summit home.  The event was attended by over 100 people and over $5,000  was raised for Ovarian Cancer.  The Walsh home was outfitted in festive colorful plants and decorations, coordinated by Hadley Peterson and a team of other Twig members.  Food, provided by Just Delicious Catering, included quesadillas, corn fritters, chips and guacamole.

The mission of SU Twig #4, comprised of mothers from Chatham, New Providence and Summit, is to enhance the experience of women and children when they visit Overlook Medical Center. The group was formed in 2004 by friends who had attended Lincoln-Hubbard Elementary School in Summit together. Later other local mothers who wanted to volunteer their time to a meaningful cause in the community and encourage participation in that cause by hosting fun social events, joined the group.   Forming SU Twig #4 also gave them the opportunity to support the local hospital where several of their own children were born. Twigs at Overlook Medical Center are comprised of groups of friends from the general area who have a similar interest in wanting to support their local hospital.  The Auxiliary supports both hands-on volunteer groups and fundraising efforts. If you are interested in starting a Twig of your own, please contact the Auxiliary Business Office at 908-522-2004 or for more information visit www.ohaux.org.

SU Twig #9

The Emergency Department at Overlook Medical Center was the recipient recently of a painting dedicated by SU Twig #9 in memory of long time Twig member and friend Jean Clutsam. Harry Tower (deceased) artist of this beautiful watercolor, which depicts friends picking strawberries together, was the husband of SU Twig #9 member Loris Tower. This painting was chosen by the Twig members because they felt it truly represented one of many activities Jean participated in alongside many of them throughout the years.

SU Twig #21

On December 10, 2010 the Annual Auxiliary Open House was held in Wallace Auditorium, organized and hosted by Summit Twig #21.  We want you to know your generosity touched the hearts of the many employees, staff and volunteers who came to the event for a break in their hectic day.  They enjoyed the coffee, tea and punch, the bagels, cheese and crackers, tea sandwiches and fruit. The biggest attraction was certainly your home-baked goods.

Our thanks go to the countless Twig and Auxiliary members who took time from busy holiday schedules to provide these treats.  Your contributions were a tangible way of saying “thank you”.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this event. Special thanks to Auxiliary Coordinator Madonna Lee, whose assistance with scheduling, publicity and coordination makes it all possible.  A huge thank you  to Donna’s Café and Stephanie Mills for their top-notch professional catering of our coffee and tea service.
